Description
The Ford Mustang is a retro-themed sports car that comes as a coupe or convertible with nominal seating for four. Now in its 60th model year, the Mustang finds itself essentially in a class of one, as the rival Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger have recently been discontinued. The base drivetrain is a stout turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder that makes 315 horsepower and is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. While this engine provides plenty of zip, few things are more visceral than the available 5.0-liter V-8. It churns out 480 hp in the GT trim, and the line-topping Dark Horse ups this to an even 500 hp. The Dark Horse also gets special trim touches and high-performance enhancements like upgraded brakes, additional oil coolers, and an available handling package that includes stiffer springs and low-profile competition tires. While the turbo-four comes only with an automatic transmission, the V-8 is available with a six-speed manual gearbox in addition to the 10-speed automatic.
